Tuning In: NLP for Christians?

Seriously, how do we expect to be other-centered sacrificial and gentle individuals when the primary thing in:
-
their mind's eye is riches and glamour (V=Visual)
-
their mind's ear the latest hits or the latest argument (A=Audio)
-
their mind's touch the feel of a Porsche or their iPhone (K=Kinaesthetic)
- their mind's nose the smell of roast beef or perfume (O=Olfactory)
their mind's tongue the taste of last night's ice-cream or every night's beer (G=Gastronomic)
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) works for spiritual formation in roughly the same way as any thinking skill, time management method, problem-based learning or Bible study plan does: It disciplines the mind, gives it some instructions to follow, creates mental habits.
NLP is, among other things, a reality-forming tool. Using NLP, one engages and manipulates the reality in one's mind. It's about realigning one's VAKOG.
"You are the most successful employee in your organisation," can be felt as a real event, though (probably) far from the truth. "You are more than a conqueror in Christ" (Rom 8:37) is for many Christians true, but very far from reality.
If you see, hear, feel, smell and taste Elvis Presley every moment, then the King is the realest thing to you even if he's rotting in his grave. If you do NOT see, hear, feel, smell or taste anything at all when you encounter the phrase, "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you" (Phil 4:13), then the King of Kings is most un-real to you, even if He is Absolute Truth Himself.
Truth is no match for Reality. If what you believe isn't real to you, you'll live AS IF you don't believe it (what else is new, eh?).
I've taken a few brief plunges into this topic previously at:
-
Escaping the Matrix (a semi-review of the book by Greg Boyd & Al Larson, a well-argued and illustrated introduction to neurology, VAKOG, fast phobic cure, etc.)
-
-
Changing States (kinda like my first encounter with state management, a key tenet of NLP)
-
More later. The truth that I-Am-Tired is starting to overwhelm me...real-ly quick...:)
