Thinking Space

Reading on teams, team context and the factors which influence team performance. Here's a paragraph which stood out for me:

"If team members have diverse backgrounds and expectations, it may be better to use a structured process for generating ideas and making decisions to ensure everyone is heard, including minority opinions."

In Letters To Thinkers, de Bono proposes a "thinking space" and allocated "thinking time" in an organisation to encourage the deliberate application of thinking tools in a pre-specified manner. Like, "Between 2-3pm, let's use Method ABC to address issue X, Y and Z. Write down our ideas and present them at 4pm."

I wish we could have a similar process in our churches. "Tuesday is designated Theological Thinking day. Let's use the tools in de Bono's Serious Creativity and produce half a dozen new ideas on Romans 9, to be presented to the Research Committee next week."
